"Artwork
is from within the spirit. Just the touch of a raw piece of wood
brings forth an almost infinite set of possibilities, and from
each set, arrives several more."

CRAIG L. CHRISTOPHERSON
I have worked as a sculptor for most
of my life. Thinking in a three-dimensional space before I could
draw. My first sculpture sold in 1967 in my fathers gallery
(The Bliss) in Capitola California. I was in 3rd. grade.
A lot has
changed over the years except that what began as a fascination
of space, form and time has now developed into something akin
to awe. The pursuit of new ideas notwithstanding, each sculpture
I build becomes yet a further exploration of things I thought
I knew. I am, in the words of the poet Rilke, ". . . always
a beginner."
My formal 2 and 3 dimensional education
was in Junior Colleges throughout Central and Northern California.
I would interview the instructors prior to be sure the growth
and development would take place. I studied under artists such
as Mayo (Mixed Media), Nahsaui (Watercolor), and Williams (Casting,
Sculpture). I have a Degree in Graphic Communication, Business
Management (1996) obtained in Santa Barbara California because
of the need to learn something that could allow me earn a Corporate
type job - For the Money.
"Artwork
is from within the spirit. Just the touch of a raw piece of
wood brings forth an almost infinite set of possibilities, and
from each set, arrives several more."
I create artwork because it is the only
thing I do that creates a reaction from those that view it.
A reaction that is Visible, that their life has been paused
for a section of time within their life span.
